{"id":392,"date":"2010-10-01T20:59:37","date_gmt":"2010-10-02T01:59:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mikeraffety.com\/blog\/?p=392"},"modified":"2010-10-13T16:14:48","modified_gmt":"2010-10-13T21:14:48","slug":"role-of-the-ipdg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mikeraffety.com\/blog\/2010\/10\/01\/role-of-the-ipdg\/","title":{"rendered":"Role of the PDG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mikeraffety.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/IMG_0545.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-426\" title=\"A PID out to pasture\" src=\"http:\/\/mikeraffety.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/IMG_0545-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"A PID out to pasture\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Does your district put old District Governors out to pasture?\u00a0 Or does it treasure and utilize this immense amount of experience to help the district and its members?\u00a0 It&#8217;s not just an honorary title that means everyone applauds them every time they attend a function!<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toastmasters.org\/websiteApps\/policyProcedures\/SectionIV-2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">district bylaws<\/a> mention a past district governors committee in a lengthy list of other committees that the District Governor may appoint as deemed advisable (bottom of page 10).\u00a0 TI also has a one-page policy on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toastmasters.org\/websiteApps\/policyProcedures\/SectionVIB6.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Role of Past Leaders Within Districts<\/a> that&#8217;s good to review as well.\u00a0 (Remember that International Directors and International Presidents were once District Governors too!)<\/p>\n<p>What does a PDG bring to the table?\u00a0 Quite a few things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge about &#8220;how it&#8217;s done&#8221; in the district (though things may have changed since they were DG!)<\/li>\n<li>Coach for the district trio (DG, LGET, LGM) and other district leaders<\/li>\n<li>Advice on how to address challenges and where sensitivities may lie<\/li>\n<li>Assistance at area and division events when trio members can&#8217;t attend<\/li>\n<li>Experienced trainer for club officer training (but make sure they&#8217;re up-to-date)<\/li>\n<li>Long-term view for strategic planning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, the Immediate Past District Governor (IPDG) has specific value:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Voting member of the DEC<\/li>\n<li>Reminders of critical deadlines (e.g., budget, submission of club officer training info, when to order contest\/conference supplies)<\/li>\n<li>Recognition of the previous year&#8217;s accomplishments at the October\/November district conference<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget about the PDGs, call on them to help your district succeed!<\/p>\n<p>[poll id=&#8221;2&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Does your district put old District Governors out to pasture?\u00a0 Or does it treasure and utilize this immense amount of experience to help the district and its members?\u00a0 It&#8217;s not just an honorary title that means everyone applauds them every time they attend a function!
